During today’s Developer Livestream Lord British talked about the importance of marking time in online games such as MMO’s. He brought this up because of the new Nightmares, which were one of the seasonal creatures that he put into the to-do list (the backlog) three years ago.

He also mentioned that trees and vegetation which responds to the seasons is in the backlog, and one of the final seasonal ones.

In terms of game development effort, trees and vegetation that changes with the seasons is exponentially more difficult than a single boss, but it is still great to hear that is on the list.

On the subject of seasons, a few months ago it started snowing in game. It was only for a little while, and hasn’t returned, but perhaps it was an indication of things to come.
