Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

I have a problem, and I was hoping you could offer some advice.

I’ve never been very adventurous. In fact until recently I had never left my farm outside Soltown. Lately however, what with the sudden appearance of hordes of undead and avatars killing all my livestock and stealing anything that isn’t nailed down, I decided to seek the security of a large city.

So I packed up my remaining possessions (personal items that had not been stolen by avatars) and headed for Adoris. Wow! Talk about culture shock! That place is huge. I couldn’t afford a row house, but I noticed that almost all the the properties in Ardoris have been taken over by avatars – and here’s where it gets awesome!

They don’t live in their houses! Apparently they spend all their time partying or adventuring and have no interest in settling down. In fact, some houses aren’t even furnished! I’ve always been good with locks, so it wasn’t much of a challenge to sneak inside.

Lately I’ve been sleeping in a different row house each night. I have favorites, of course. Those that are fully furnished and have a hot tub come high on my list.

Anyhow, by now you are probably wondering what in the Oracle’s name is my problem…

OK, here it is. Recently I was almost discovered by a group of avatars who returned unexpectedly. I was able to hide under a bed, and while there I heard a very disturbing conversation. The avatars seemed to regard Novia and the Hidden Vale as some kind of conjured world and contrasted it with what they called the “real” world. (Presumably this refers to Earth, the place from which they claim to originate.) They described the local inhabitants as “En Pea Seas” and were discussing major changes to Novia that would come in the future. They talked of a mysterious place called Mistrendur , a place that at that time I had never heard of. Later I wrote all that I had heard in my diary.

Since then I have re-read what I wrote, and I am filled with fear. As I pen this letter I am sure that I have always known of Mistrendur, and yet a few days ago when I wrote in my diary I had never heard of it. I have started to notice other things as well. I cannot remember my childhood. Did I even have one? All I can recall is living on a farm. I must have had parents, but I have no recollection of them. I am beginning to think that my entire world has been conjured by an immensely powerful wizard who continues to change my reality on a regular basis.

Am I losing my mind?

Yours sincerely,

Dear Concerned,

What an imagination! The stress of constantly hiding, your incessant fear of discovery, and the the undoubtedly unbalanced diet that results from eating found food seems to have been too much for you.

I suggest you take a holiday. I recommend the delightful tourist location Mistrendur (which most definitely hasn’t suddenly appeared out of nowhere).

Kind regards,

The Editors
